Summary of 2005 events

Jun 2:
PH Remodeling Fund Committee meeting

The pledge campaign for the Polish Home expansion and remodeling started in earnest with close to $100,000 pledged for the project. This meeting is about widening the campaign. The meeting is public and all volunteers are welcome.

May 17:
PH Remodeling Fund Committee meeting

All committee meetings are open to public. The committee welcomes all the volunteers who would like to help with the Polish Home remodeling project and fundraiser.

Apr 23–May 1:
Polish Film Festival at SAM

The 13th Seattle Polish Film Festival this year is at the Seattle Art Museum downtown. The Foundation supports the Festival.

Apr 2-25:
Polish Wings in WWII
at the Polish Home

The exhibition about Polish squadrons in WWII, and especially those fighting in the Battle of Britain, has been prepared by Krzysztof Poraj-Kuczewski and supported by the Foundation.

Apr 1:
Lecture A Question of Honor at the UW

Lynn Olson and Stanley Cloud, the authors of the book A Question of Honor about Polish pilots fighting in the Battle of Britain talk about their heroism and political situation. The Foundation supported the Polish Wings in WWII exhibition available at the lecture.

Mar 19:
Polish Bazaar

The Foundation has a stand at the 42nd Bazaar at the Polish Home. This is a fundraiser as we sell donated books and folk art items. We also present Foundation’s accomplishments and new plans to expand the Polish Home.

Mar 3:
PH fundraising meeting

The first meeting of the fundraising committee for the Polish Home expansion and remodeling. We need volunteers! Everybody is welcome.

Feb 22:
Annual PHF Meeting

The annual meeting of the Foundation members is scheduled at 7:30 pm on Feb 22, 2005 at the Polish Home. Everybody is welcome.

Nov 20, 2004:
Wesele Poety concert

Wesele Poety is a concert at the Polish Home featuring songs to poems by Polish poets and music by Tomasz Aleksander, performed by Marzanna Bachowska (vocals) and Mr. Aleksander (piano). The Foundation is a concert sponsor.

Sept-Oct:
60th Anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising

A series of events is organized in Seattle in September and October to commemorate 60th anniversary of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. PHF supports these events and finances several of them. Please see more info here. This is a major financial effort for the Foundation, donations are welcome.

Aug-Sept:
PHF exhibitions at Sts. Peter & Paul's Parish in Tacoma

Both recent  PHF exhibitions are on display at the Parish Parish in Tacoma:  'Poles in Central Asia: lives, fates and traces' and  'Wiktor-Siminski, the Art of Survival' can be viewed Aug 7 - Aug 16, 2004.

June 4, 8 pm:
Lecture by J. & S. Pagacz

at the Polish Home

Julia and Stanislaw Pagacz are young Polish biology researchers who made several trips to Lake Baikal region and authored two guidebooks and a photo-album 'Siberia: in the Baikal Land of Butyats'. Their rich slide presentation at the Polish Home is supported by the Foundation.

May-June 2004:
PHF exhibitions at St. Margaret's in Seattle

Both exhibitions organized recently by the PHF are on display at the Parish Hall of the Polish Church in Seattle. 'Wiktor-Siminski, the Art of Survival' is available May 3-23, and 'Poles in Central Asia: lives, fates and traces' is available May 23 - June 12, 2004.

April-May 2004:
Fundraiser for a air-conditioning system at the Polish Home

Polish Home Assn  is gathering funds to install a new air-conditioning or ventilation system at the Polish Home in Seattle. The Foundation supports this fundraiser - checks should be made to Polish Home Foundation with a note "for ventilation" at the bottom of the check.

Update: As of June 15, 2004 about $9,000 has been raised.

The exhibition Poles in Central Asia: lives, fates, traces, organized by Ewa & Krzysztof Poraj-Kuczewski is on display at the Polish Home

April 2004:
Radio Wisla fundraiser

Radio Wisla is a new Polish language radio in Puget Sound starting in May and covering Seattle with Eastside from Everett to Tacoma. It is a non-profit organization promoting Polish language and music. Polish Home Foundation supports the Radio and accepts donations for its benefit.

April 13, 3:30 pm:
Poles in Central Asia

Dr. Olga Medvedeva of Vancouver, BC, will have a public lecture Poles in Central Asia: lives, fates, traces at the University of Washington in Seattle, about Poles in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in 19th  & 20th centuries. PHF organized an exhibition on the same topic based on her archives. More...

March - April:
Mariola Blonska fundraiser

Mariola Blonska is a Seattleite who had a case of untreatable cancer. Her friends raised about $1200 to help with her medical bills and are grateful to the donors. Mariola passed away before Easter. For more info please contact Barbara Rowan at barbrowan@comcast.net.

Wiktor: Art of Survival

exhibit & fundraiser

This is a fundraiser for a documentary movie project about Wiktor Siminski who was an artist and survivor of a Nazi concentration camp hosted by the producer of the movie. The exhibition features pictures of Wiktor's art and historical photos. More...

Feb 24, 7:30 pm:
Annual Meeting of PHF

The annual meeting of Members and friends of PHF is open to the public. This is also an election meeting. Come to listen about our accomplishments and plans; we are looking for new Members and volunteers! The 2004 Report will be posted here shortly.

Feb 6, 8 pm:
Roman Czarny in concert

Roman Czarny while not busy as a Polish consul is also a talented song-writer and a singer known for his "Chicago Night Blues" and other songs. His concert at the Polish Home will feature many of his best songs as well as his favorites by others as sung both at concerts and campfires.

January:
Polish School fundraiser

The Parent Committee of the Polish School in Seattle continues with the tradition of great fundraisers for the School. The carnival party for children on Jan 11 and donations to PHF raised together about $2000. Donations for the School to PHF educational fund are still welcome!

Warsaw University Theatre

at the Polish Home

The Academic Theatre of the Warsaw University presents a two part musical program in Polish: Part1, Droga do Raju, features poetry by Zbigniew Herbert to music by Stanislaw Radwan; part2, Mesko-damski punkt widzenia, presents new songs by Leszek Czajkowski & Katarzyna Piekarska. Event supported by a PHF grant.

open meeting of PHF

All members and friends of the Foundation are invited to this meeting at the Polish Home in Seattle. We'll talk about achievements this year and plans for the next. If you support PHF, you should come! Volunteers are always needed!

PHA 85th anniversary gala &

Polonez Dance Group

The Polish Home Association in Seattle celebrates its 85th anniversary with a special gala. The program includes a dinner, a performance of Polish folk songs and dances by the Polonez group from Vancouver, BC and a dance evening as well as a PHA history exhibition. Organized by PHA and supported by PHF with a grant for the Polonez group.

Olbinski Exhibition summary

The Exhibition and related fundraisers (the public donation campaign, the lunch with the artist and the sale of Mr. Olbinski's posters, books and calendars) was a very successful event raising over $4500 for the PHF cultural fund. PHF is grateful to the Puget Sound & Pacific NW public for this generous support.

Fundraising lunch with Mr. Olbinski

The lunch will be held at Mr. & Mrs. Pawluskiewicz residence in Seattle to honor Mr. Olbinski. The lunch is a fundraiser for the exhibition and is open to the public. To obtain an invitation, please support the exhibition through a donation to the cultural fund of PHF; invitations $75 single, $100. .

Artist's Lecture

The Olbinski exhibition will be opened at the Suzzallo before the lecture from 6-7 pm  The lecture will be delivered at Kane Hall, starting at 7 p.m. Abstract here.

The Olbinski Poster Exhibition

Mr. Olbinski is a contemporary surrealist. He comes to the University of Washington in Seattle as a guest speaker. His exhibition and visit to Seattle shape up as great events! Here is a review of his works, with a Look at Olbinski.

Apr 12, 2003, noon-7pm:

PHF at the Polish Bazaar

Please come to see the Foundation booth at the Polish Home during the spring bazaar: you can look at Olbinski's books and calendars, order his posters, buy Polish folk art etc. You can also talk to the PHF Officers about the Foundation and meet Olbinski exhibition volunteers around 2 pm. And, the bazaar is a great event in itself!

March 2003: the "Polna Rapsodia" concert

"Polna Rapsodia" is a concert featuring songs to poems by Polish authors such as Nobel Prize winners Milosz and Szymborska. The first concert is scheduled for Mar 9, 2003, more will be coming. This event is organized by Mr. Aleksander of Seattle and supported by the Polish Home Foundation.

February 2003: annual meeting of Members

On Feb 20, 2003 there was an annual meeting of Members. This meeting was an occasion to make a summary of the first year of PHF activities. Please see the 2002 PHF Report for details.

January 2003: Krzysztof Tasak luncheon

The Polish Parish in Tacoma organized a luncheon (a Polish style dinner) for the benefit of Krzysztof Tasak on Jan 5. Mr. Tasak, 25, is a paraplegic after a recent accident. He was hospitalized at the Harborview Medical Center and currently is with Seatoma Convalescent Center. He needs support to continue therapy. The Parish raised over $2100 for Krzysztof.

Summary of events for 2002

Fall-Winter 2002: Medical assistance fundraiser

There are people in our community who are in a desperate need for medical assistance. PHF supports ongoing fundraisers for the benefit of Agnieszka Marczak and Krzysztof Tasak as well as for other people in a similar situation. To donate to the PHF medical fund please write a check to Polish Home Foundation and indicate "medical and emergency fund" for a general donation to the fund, or indicate a person that you wish to support.

Fall 2002: the Polish School Fundraiser

Background: The Polish School in Seattle, WA was established in 1990.  Classes are held at the Polish Home. The School provides an education for children in kindergarten and elementary grades. There are also three groups for adults who wish to learn Polish language.

Fundraiser: The School relies on community support to make the tuition affordable for parents and appreciates donations helping in any way. The School is still in the process of gathering necessary books and equipment. At the moment the biggest need is for books and teaching materials.

Outcome: the School received a grant of $300 in Nov, 2003.

Summer 2002: startup period

In the period following the annual meeting, the executive committee focused on getting nuts and bolts of the Foundation to work. News about the Foundation has been published in the Seattle based Polish-American periodicals and notices posted over the internet. Internal procedures and policies have been discussed. The account and the website have been established. The first donation has been received.

May 2002: the first meeting of Members

On May 7, the Members of the Foundation held their first annual meeting. The gathering adopted the Bylaws of the Foundation, introduced changes to the Articles of Incorporation and elected the Board of Directors for the first regular term. In turn, the Board appointed the executive committee with Mr. Kott as the President. The meeting marks the beginning of the Foundation activities.

March 2002: IRS grants PHF the tax exemption status

With the decision dated March 28, 2002, the IRS granted the 501(c)(3) tax exemption status to Polish Home Foundation.
